Ayrton Senna is considered one of the best F1 pilots of all time with his three Formula 1 championships.
Senna’s Achievements at his Young Age
Ayrton Senna was born in Sao Paulo in 1960. At the age of 4, Senna started to drive karting when he was 4 years old and joined go kart races for the first time when he was 13 years old. Senna’s father has supported his son since his childhood. İn 1973, Senna won the first race in Sao Paolo. Two weeks after winning the race he was again the winner in the Sao Paulo winter races. After these achievements he has won many races in Brazil, but he never won World Championship.
Senna was the world runner up in 1980. In 1980 he participated in Formula 3000 and was first. Senna’s achievements drew attention and he participated in Formula 1 for the first time with Toleman-Hart team in 1980. In 1985 he joined Lotus team and won first Grand Prix race in Portugal. Senna’s Formula 1 achievements have limited with three world championship due to a tragic accident.
Why is Ayrton Senna a legend?
- In his F1 race he performed his own driving technique in rainy weather. He has had the nickname “rainman”, due to his ability.
- He devoted his life to races. “Being second is to be the first of the ones who lose” quote belongs to him.
- Even his death has added value to Formula 1 races. He provided to take precaution for Formula 1 pilots’ life safety.
Despite of his determination to win, he was a professional. His biggest rival, Alain Prost, made a statement after Senna’s death and said these:
“When I wanted to give up Formula 1, Senna tried to persuade me to continue. There was a real competition between us. I can say that our competition was usually positive. Those days people supported me or Senna. I had never seen the people who supported both of us. As a result, we were the best enemies in the world. Prost was Senna, Senna was Prost.
